There seems to be a lot of anniversaries going on recently, many of them having to do with video games and movies. As we speak, people all over are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the film “Ghostbusters”, which was originally released on June 7, 1984. Across the country, theaters are showing the movie on the big screen once again, for both old and new fans of the series to enjoy. As the years went on, a variety of video games based on the franchise had been created, including a game for the Sega Genesis platform in 1990. The game, different than the other games released, was much more graphically appealing, however some fans noticed some color incorrectness. A new hack has been recently released that helps fix these color errors, and it’s ready to play as you read this.

The Sega Genesis version of “Ghostbusters “was published by Sega and developed by Compile, and released on June 29, 1990. This would be only 6 years after the release of the original film. It is completely unrelated to the earlier Activision game which was released for a variety of video game consoles and computers of the mid 1980s. This time around, we get a traditional shooter game where the player takes control of squat cartoon representations of three of the four Ghostbusters from the movie, with the absence of Winston Zeddemore, played by Ernie Hudson in the film.

In the original game, the Ghostbusters suits were blue in color, however in the films, their suits were always a beige color. While not as extreme as say the NES version of Jason Voorhees’ suit in LJN’s “Friday The 13th” game, it was a color change that was noticeable and unnecessary. This new ROM hack, done by ROMhacking member SCD, changes the colors of the Ghostbusters uniforms to make them more accurate to their movie counterparts. It also changes the colors of some of the text found within, as well as some of the weapons from the shop and Arthur’s attire. After applying the patch, the appropriate colored suits as shown not only during game play, but during the cut scenes as well.

You will need a copy of the original game ROM (not provided with the download) in order to use the patch, in which the update can be found at the link below.
